The collection reflects a wide range of perspectives focusing exclusively on male energy and the male genre, and documents the gamut of masculinity from the 1840s to the present.  There are names you will recognize such as Ritts, Weber and Avedon, and less well-known artists whose obscurity adds to the collection’s uniqueness and significance.  A unique sensitivity is also represented by such female photographers as Imogen Cunningham, Lynn Bianchi and Sonya Noskowiak.

The images draw on the collector’s background in art, dance and design, to build a gallery of the human male form.  Most of the photographs are cut loose from traditional restrictions and boundaries and are infused with the aesthetic spirit of their time: romance, fashion, humor, wonder, intimacy, classic physique, and provocative nudes.  Many of these renowned works have been widely published and exhibited; a few are one-of-a-kind vernacular photography.

All the materials have been cataloged, and a professional appraisal was conducted in November 2005.   Considerable effort has been made to ensure these exceptional treasures are preserved and treated with museum-quality care.
